A comparison of Blade Runner to three different Ridley Scott films

Hannibal

Hannibal was shot on location, over 100, in Florence and America, where as blade runner was done mainly using sets. Both films however did not use CGI, although probably for different reasons, as blade runner was low budget and Hannibal didn't need it. Both movies have a underlying theme of "romance" in their respective manners, blade runner exploring it as a more obvious romantic/sexual relationship whereas Hannibal explores it more subtly, as Lecter and Starling seemingly have some of the attributes of a dark, twisted romance, but this is not to say they should be together, it is simply exploring a complicated dynamic. both romances can be seen as unconventional.

Alien

Both alien and blade runner are futuristic films, and both have dark themes, however alien is a science fiction horror film where as blade runner is a futuristic noir. They both used a lot of set design and didn't really film on location much. alien is thought to have sexual overtones, and blade runner also has obvious sexual overtones, but in alien they are more subtle, as in the aliens attacks and phallic shaped head are more metaphors for it, where as in blade runner it is an obvious imagery, with Decker almost forcing himself onto Rachel, and the display of both the male and female body.

Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Louise was filmed by location. The overwhelming theme of this movie seems to be feminism. a scene in Thelma and Louise that can be compared to blade runner is Harlan trying to force himself onto Thelma, as decker did to Rachel. neither films used CGI.
